What is an ACTS retreat?
An ACTS retreat is a Roman Catholic sponsored gathering of God’s children who want to enhance, (or begin), their spiritual journey to grow closer to Jesus, God the Father, and the SVdP community. It is a three day and three night experience beginning on Thursday evening and ending after the 11:00 am Sunday Mass at SVdP. However, while it is only three days out of the year, it’s an experience that can last a lifetime.
An ACTS retreat is conducted and teamed by SVdP Parishioners who have previously attended an ACTS retreat, and who been called by the Holy Spirit specifically for you. At the retreat, there will be prayer, reflection, and discussion - and fun (no, really: you will have fun!) - centered on personal talks presented by the retreat team around the themes of Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service.
An ACTS retreat is a powerful community building experience. The ACTS weekend brings the retreatants to a better understanding of God's love for them, and also develops their need to share that love with others through their involvement in a faith-centered parish community.
Who can attend an ACTS retreat?
Any adult 21 and over can attend, and the retreat is open to any denomination. Holy Scripture and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church are the guides for the retreat, but the atmosphere and “feel” is uniquely SVdP.
What happens at an ACTS retreat?
For most people, something amazing! To feel the power and to see and experience the love of the Holy Spirit at work during an ACTS retreat has been life changing for some, life enhancing for others, but few who have gone through an ACTS retreat emerge on Sunday as the same person who arrived on Thursday.
Now, if you’re asking exactly what happens, well, it’s not a secret, but it is a surprise. Think of it this way: if you heard about a great movie that you wanted to go see and someone told you every detail, plot twist, and how it ends, it would diminish that movie experience. Besides, we already told you how it ends, (see the above paragraph). If you'd like to actually talkto someone who has been on an ACTS retreat, contact the ACTS facilitator below.
Why should I attend an ACTS Retreat?
The truth is, that is the one question only you can answer. We recommend you consult the Holy Spirit in your discernment process. Perhaps a better question is, why shouldn't you attend?
Where is the ACTS Retreat?
ACTS Retreats will be held at various Catholic retreat centers around Houston.
