Together with Catholic Extension Society, we are supporting the renewal of St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish a parish rich in faith, perseverance, and hope.
Established in 1932 by the Josephite Fathers, St. Thérèse of Lisieux Catholic Church was founded at a time when African American Catholics were often underserved in their spiritual and pastoral needs. Today, St. Thérèse remains the only Catholic church in the Gulfport area serving a predominantly African American congregation, and it is still staffed by the Josephites.
Though small in size, parish life is vibrant and prayerful, including daily and weekend Masses, Rosary, Eucharistic Exposition, and meaningful spiritual and social gatherings. Nearly 30 children and youth actively participate in religious education and youth ministry. These young people are the future of the parish and a powerful sign of hope.
This renovation is not simply about improving a building it is about honoring elders, welcoming families, nurturing young people, and ensuring future generations inherit a church that is accessible, safe, and beautiful. Your Lenten generosity helps strengthen a historic parish and ensures that St. Thérèse of Lisieux continues to shine as a beacon of faith for generations to come.
