We need faithful volunteers who enjoy meeting new people, making new friends, waling with others on their faith journey and sharing their faith! A detailed description of each volunteer ministry role is below. Adult Sacramental Preparation Ministry
Adult Confirmation: We need volunteers to serve as catechists who will be responsible for teaching and accompanying our on their journey toward receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. They will assist in preparing and presenting lessons as well as facilitate small group discussions. Time Commitment: We offer two sessions per year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring, confirm and there are 11 classes per session.
RCIA: We need volunteers to serve on the RCIA team as mentors. Mentors will be assigned to each of the Inquirers and will be responsible for helping their Inquirer stay connected, answer questions, and accompany them on their journey toward baptism/full communion with the Catholic Church. Time Commitment: Volunteer training will begin in March. Classes will meet weekly.
Middle School & High School Ministry
Edge Core Team: We need adults who are willing to say yes to God by discipling middle school youth! Edge Core Team will lead small groups, give talks, lead prayer, and more! To be on the Edge Core Team, email Dean Kovacs at dkovacs@svdp-edu.org (preferred) or 713-663-3524.
Edge Peer Teen Leaders: All high school youth that are sophomores or older are invited to share their gifts and talents with Edge by setting an example of holiness to our middle school youth. Teen assistants help to lead small groups and disciple the middle schoolers just as our Core Team does, as well as give talks, perform skits, make videos, lead prayer, and more!
Teen Confirmation Ministry
Confirmation Core Team: We need adults who are willing to say yes to God by disciplining 9th and 10th graders on their journey to Confirmation! Confirmation Core Team will lead small groups, give talks, lead prayer, and more! If you are interested in being a part of Confirmation Core Team, email Dean Kovacs at dkovacs@svdp-edu.org.
Confirmation Peer Teen Leaders: Peer Leaders are high school students who have been Confirmed and help co-lead a small group with an adult leader. Peer Teen Leaders assist with program planning and leading games and activities as they mentor their peers through the sacramental prep process.
Time Commitment: Confirmation meets every Wednesday from 7-8:30 pm (Year 1 and Year 2 classes alternate weeks). There is an option to help with only one class and commit to two Wednesdays per month. Core Team is expected to arrive at least 15 mins prior to the start of class to help set up and to stay after to help clean up and sanitize chairs. Core Team will also help plan and implement two-day retreats in November and January. Sometime outside of class may be required to prepare for talks and lessons to effectively lead a small group discussion.
Children & Family Ministry
Under Thy Roof Program
Friend of Family (family mentor): We need individuals to walk with others on the journey of Under Thy Roof, helping with how to implement the program and providing oversight. In addition, you will be a person to reach out to if the family has questions and discussions. You can be a registered participant for this volunteer role too. The time commitment is scheduled by each catechist, but activities will need to be accomplished on a weekly basis. Approximate time per week 1-3 hours.
Catechists: We need Catechists who will teach children or adult sessions during our monthly family gatherings. Catechists will be in the classroom with children of PK3 to 5th graders reviewing the last months materials in a fun engaging way. We will provide training. Approximate time per month is 1-2 hours of preparation and 4 hours one Sunday per month.
Program Support Volunteer: We need volunteers who will help with the Under Thy Roof program logistics, packaging, and many random fun projects throughout the year that support all families. Lots of help is needed in August/September and then throughout the liturgical seasons. We will need logistics help with our monthly Family Sundays too. You are welcome to bring your children to help with some of these projects. Time commitment is project specific, could be one hour to half a day, you can help as your schedule permits.
First Reconciliation & First Communion Retreat Volunteers:
We need volunteers to be on our retreat teams. We need help as a hospitality, break out room assistant \ or session leader. There are two retreats per year where we need help. Time commitment is a half of a day to about 12 hours if you are a session leader.
